Weekend Roundup

I don't normally share my weekends on here..maybe because life has been boring around here lately? Just kidding.  Life has been non stop since I moved home.

Friday my hubs and I met a cousin out for drinks.  Perfect spring day.  Then we had dinner, headed home, and just relaxed.

Saturday, I went to my 15 year high school reunion.  I went to an all girls, Catholic High School, and loved meeting up with everyone.  Especially the nuns!

Sunday I just did usual housekeeping.  Laundry, errands, and relaxed with the in laws.  My MIL made this recipe.  It is sooo good.  Highly recommend it!

Hope you had a great weekend!!

#LillyforTarget

So was anyone else crazy like me to get up super early to shop online or in the stores?  I went online, and had my faves in my cart in about 2 seconds.  Then the site crashed, and all my wonderful items I loved were gone.

Grrr.

I did, however, get a pair of these

Did anyone else experience this Lilly hell?  I thought I was a shoe in for the flip flops I wanted...no pun intended.  Just ended up being an epic fail, and some frustration.  Right now I will just drink my Sunday morning coffee, do my laundry, and relax.

Minimum What?

I have seen many articles over the past few months concerning raising minimum wage.  Some of these offer valid points, and many just really get to me.  Read the whole entry, the snarky cartoons, and the links. Trust me, you will learn a lot about the "new" minimum wage.

$15 an hour?  Seriously?

That is almost $30,000 a year.  Do you know how much money a Navy E-3 makes out of bootcamp?

$21,890 a year.  Do you know what this Sailor does all day?  They are a jack of all trades.  They paint.  The conduct underway replenishments.  They stand watch.  They work more than an 8 hour day, every day, and this is what they make.  Yes.  They get medical insurance, dental insurance, a roof over their head (also known as their rack on a ship).  But they bust their hump to make that $21,890 a year.

A Navy E-5 with 4 to 5 years of work experience makes about $15 an hour.  This is a Sailor who has schooling, experience, usually 1 to 2 deployments under their belt.

I am all for fair pay, if there is fair work behind it.  I think that education is key, and that everyone has to be their own advocate.  Life gets in the way, I know.  Everyone has to fight for themselves to get what they want in life, and out of life.

I have a few links that go to stories on the minimum wage hike.  Take a look, form your own educated opinion.  I am just peeved over the sense of entitlement with today's youth.  I saw it every day while in the Navy, and I am sure I will continue to see it as a Reservist, and a Civilian.

Grateful

Have you ever had one of those weeks where everything that could go wrong, has gone wrong?

That has been my week.  I could dwell on it, be pissed off, angry, and just downright mad at the world.

I am surprisingly not being bitchy about it, or being one of those fb people you hate "blah blah blah, bad day, blah, I hate the world, blah."

I realized, that I have to be, and am grateful for everything that has gone well.  For all that I have in my life.  I am one lucky girl.  I have a unbelievable husband.  Awesome friends.  Cute puppies.  A loyal family.  A roof over my head.

The list could go on..but I might bore you.  Whenever you have a terrible day, week, etc.  Just take a second.  Relax.  Breathe-and think about all the good.  Trust me, it works.

Travel...with Chicago Girl

When I got Maddie's email about linking up about travel, it was tough for me to nail down one of my favorite places.

I had to pick one with photos, as I never take a lot of photos when I travel to the Middle East.

One of my favorite places from my last deployment was Muscat, Oman.  This is a place that if I took my husband on a vacation to the Middle East, we would to go Dubai and Muscat.

You can read my original post about Muscat here!

Fashionista

So I am definitely not a fashionista, nor do I pretend to be.  I do, however, love to look nice, and often rotate items in my wardrobe.

I try to do the 30 in 30 as often as possible, so I am not wasting money on clothes.

I found this on the internets today, and absolutely love it.  Rules to live by!!

Some of my recent favorite stores:

JCrew
Nordstrom (Paige Jeans..hellooo)
Macy's
Gap
Anthropologie
Versona

Stay tuned for an online closet sale as soon as I get my act together.  Need to sell to make room for the new!
